JAVA

The downloadable version of all eLexico.com products needs a recent Java release (JVM or Java Virtual Machine) installed on all platforms in order to run properly. We recommend to keep your Java machine always updated.
Check out in this page if you need to do something about Java, depending on your operating system.

Macintosh

• On Leopard (OS X 10.5) and Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) systems, a Java version is automatically installed during system setup; you just need to keep it up to date.

The same applies to Lion (OS X 10.7) systems upgraded from Snow Leopard, as the Snow Leopard Java version is preserved.
In all these cases you have nothing to do.
• On Lion (OS X 10.7) systems installed on a new Mac and Moutain Lion (OS X 10.8), there may be no Java version provided.
To check for the presence of a Java version on your system, look in your Finder for the item Applications > Utility > Java Preferences (up to Java 6), or look for the Java icon in System Preferences.
If you don't find the Java control panel, you need to download Java from the Apple website or from the Oracle website.
The latest Java upgrade for Lion and Mountain Lion are 64-bit only. Check that you have downloaded the proper 64-bit Mac version of the dictionary.

Linux

In any Linux distribution you need an original Sun/Oracle Java version installed, at least 1.6.
Check it in a terminal window (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) by typing the command line:
java -version

If you get no answer, or your Java version is below 1.6, download the latest version from www.java.com and follow the instructions.
Check also that Java can be used by all users and that is installed in /usr/bin.

Windows

For all Windows systems, the correct Java version is integrated in the installer you have downloaded (or will download) from the eLexico.com website, so you have nothing to do.
