Using the online dictionaries

- Interface and menus: the menu bar offers 4 or 5 options.
The Home menu gives access to the online shop of the eLexico.com website and allows for logout.
The Products menu allows to switch between eLexico online dictionaries to which you have rights to access.
The Language menu allows to choose the interface language.
The Utils menu opens this help page, gives acces to the terms of the User Licence, and to the Privacy Policy statement, to the list with the meaning of all abbreviations used in the dictionary text, and to the credits about the dictionary.
The My Account menu allows individual users with access by means of a username and password to renew directly a subscription, or to add a new product into the same account.

- The (Index) tab corresponds to a simple search made by leafing through the dictionary: as you insert a character in the field "Find entry", the index moves to the first entry that complies with your search. You can display a different entry in the right window by clicking it in the index on the left.

In bilingual dictionaries, two buttons with the language flag enable you to restrict the index or the result window to entries belonging from one of the dictionary sections.

- The (Search) tab enables more advanced searches by filling one or more input fields.
If you fill more input fields, the result of the search contains entries that comply with all the conditions.
The Search button lauches the search. The Clear button clears all parameters of the current search. The Favorite button stores the current list of results in the list of favorites: only lists with 1 to 50 results can be stored into the favorites.

Advanced searches: To search for expressions made of several words, enclose the entire expression with quotation marks.
Two ore more (unquoted) words, separated by a blank space, are evaluated as they were linked by the OR operator (the result show entries that contain at least one of the input words).
Two ore more (unquoted) words, separated by the operator &&, are evaluated as they were linked by the AND operator (the result show entries that contain all the input words)).
You can use standard wild card characters in any input field: * (any number of any character) and ? (any single character).

Predefined search fields: Fields with a button on the right with three dots give a choice among predefined parameters. The button opens a popup window in which you can make your selection.
Parameters are shown in a hierarchical display: a small triangle to the left of an item means that other sub-items are presented; you can access the sub-item list by clicking on the triangle icon.
You can select several parameters by performing several times the same operation: in this case the search will comply with entries that contain at least one of the predefined parameters. If you wish to get entries that contain all the predefined parameters, just insert the AND operator between eanch of them in the input field (i.e., insert the && character).

Database integration: when the package includes several dictionaries, the search parameter set im the "Search" mode for one dictionary are automatically carried over when selecting another dictionary, and the latter opens with the display of the results for that search.

- The (History) tab shows the list of entries that have been already displayed. The Clear button clears the history.

- The (Favorites) tab shows the list of entries stores into the favorites. The Clear button clears the favorites.

- In the entry window (on the right), found words are highlighted with a yellow background.
When you right-click an indexed word, a small popup window opens, showing the results of an quick search for that word in all fields presented within the dictionary.
When you move the mouse over some abbreviated words (e.g. grammatical abbreviations used within the dictionary) you will display a balloon with the full version.
Active links between entries or other documents are shown by buttons or by the change of the mouse cursor shape.
You may search words inside the text of the entry by means of the browser's search function, using the F3 key.
In some products, the button showing a loudspeaker icon plays the pronunciation of the word. You need to have a plugin able to play MP3 files installed in your system (e.g. QuickTime, that can be downloaded for free from the web page www.apple.com/quicktime/download).
