The new edition of one of the largest dictionaries of the Italian language remains faithful to the original project: a close link between the structures of the lexis and the syntactic movement of the language, with the aim of guiding the construction of sentences and the choice of words with criteria of communicative effectiveness. In particular, the definition of the different meanings of verbs is closely connected to the analysis of their syntactic construction, described according to the “valential model”, now widely adopted in modern teaching.
Furthermore, this new edition, in addition to an update of the headwirds list with the insertion of numerous neologisms, presents innovations in the structure and treatment of the entries, introduced to respond to the recent, great changes in culture and social sensitivity: for each noun and adjective, traditionally indicated only in the masculine form, the corresponding feminine form is now always indicated in the headword area.
