Proverbs are short sentences in lapidary or sententious style, handed down by folk memory or in writing, that express an actual truth pointed out by experience, and shown as the confirmation of an argument, as the strengthening of a forecast, as a rule or as a warning. This work presents and annotates more than 25.000 Italian and dialectal proverbs, sorted on a formal principle based on keywords, as well as a semantic principle based on conceptual affinity.
